Dr. James E. Tew is an Extension Specialist, Apiculture at Ohio State University’s Department of Entomology. Since 1978, Dr. Tew has taught classes, provided extension services, and conducted applied research on honey bees and honey bee behavior – specifically pollination behavior. Additionally, he has written numerous beekeeping articles for beekeeping journals and has published two books, “Beekeeping Principles” and “Backyard Beekeeping.” Dr. Tew has traveled widely to observe beekeeping techniques and procedures. Currently, Dr. Tew is conducting a regionalized cooperative extension beekeeping project with Auburn University in which basic Alabama extension responsibilities are conducted by Dr. Tew from Ohio.
Dr. Tew is married to Vallie S. Tew, who is a high school teacher; he has 3 married daughters and 3 grandchildren.
Dr. Tew received the "Founder's Award" from The Foundation for the Preservation of Honey Bees on January 15, 2010, at this years American Beekeeping Federation.
